What is a Prosthodontist?
A prosthodontist is a certified specialist within the dental field. The typical career path of a prosthodontist starts with a four year dental program. After graduating as a general practitioner, it is not uncommon for the dentist to start working in a general practice. As he / she accumulates experience in a wide range of dental services, a passion for cosmetic and restorative work develops – a passion that requires a return for three more years of graduate-level studies. During this time, the future prosthodontist perfects the skill sets that he / she will need to become the “artisan” of the dental world.
After graduate school, prosthodontists set up practices that work exclusively within the following four areas of dentistry: the replacement of missing teeth, cosmetic dentistry, dental implants and the correction of oral and facial problems. Their exposure to the most complex cases on a routine basis allows them to become very confident and proficient in diagnosing and treating even the most complicated cases.
